Intention Check Points

When I first started approaching things in my life with this process, setting my why and nailing down the how, I was amazed at how achievable things became. Dreams became tangible. I wasn’t daunted by endless to dos keeping me stuck in dream land where anything is possible…I started living these things in real life! Don’t hear what I’m not saying. I have endless to dos.

Dennis Family Fall 2018

I am a wife of 12 years.

Mom of 3 young boys.

I own a thriving small business and am in school.

Juggle family, friends, and laundry, just like you. I don’t live in the bubble of a dustless house, with  self-cleaning toilets and animals that don’t shed or repeatedly get into the trash. I guess that is why I feel I can offer some pointers. You can have a high capacity! You don’t have to give up your dreams and goals while letting the rest of life suffer.

Intention Challenge Prompt #3:

Check Points

As far as my goals though, this week’s process is a rudder that guides me from dream to reality. After I do the internal work we covered in the first two posts the third step is the last crucial step I’ve found in the process. Check points. Yes, those full stop, check all the tires to make sure they are balding, brakes work, engine isn’t smoking.

That reminds me I need a oil change.

Scentsable Health – Hope

Here are the two check points I use. You may use one, you may have more than three. Know who you are and how much accountability and encouragement you need in this process.

My first check point is me. As an introverted, self-aware person, I do a pretty decent job of being aware when I’m running on empty or feeling overwhelmed. If I catch myself at this check point I reevaluate my 3-5 goals and see what needs to be put on ice for a bit. I always remind myself it is a season and I can pick it back up at the next check point if life has simmered down a bit. If I haven’t made any movement on one of my goals then I evaluate that too. Was my why too weak for this to be a priority right now? Am I struggling with fear? Do I need something to create movement like funds, a tool, encouragement?

Scentsable Health – Get Happy

Once I locate the issue, I jump back in and give it another try. Since my natural inclination is to internalize deeply, I like diffusing essential oils in this process that keep my heart and mind uplifted and encouraged, like Hope or Get Happy. A blend that keeps me focused and motivated but not overly critical.

Scentsable Health – Summer Breeze

For those who prefer to do internal processing with a 10ft microscope, something gentle like Summer Breeze helps the introspection be less stressful and more enjoyable (maybe not enjoyable, but tolerable?). If I know the goal is going to be intense I like to gather inspirational verses, quotes or images to help keep me encouraged in the process. I have a cheesy Pinterest board for every big dream I’ve had. Which brings up an important point – emotions. Yeah. Those ones. If you’re driving too hard to enjoy the journey of building your dream, S-L-O-W D-O-W-N. If you’re struggling with fear, pin point why and work through that.

If you need help or encouragement, reach out to your tribe! That is actually my second check point. My people. The closest people to my heart know my 3-5 goals. Maybe not all of them, but the ones I need them in on to complete. These are the people who WANT to see me reach these dreams and know the world will be a better place for it. I’ve had one dream for 4 years already and when I start to reach the place where it feels like it is never going to blossom, my tribe reminds me I’m on the right path and it will come! My fab few not only cheer me on, but love me enough to say, “Hey, no. You’re killing yourself and you lost your joy. Stop. Let’s go get coffee.” My husband is in this group and I promise you, Scentsable Health wouldn’t exist without his place in this circle! I love you, babe!

If it is a community goal such as, “all laundry folded and put away on Fridays”, your check point partners are going to be anyone who participates in that process – like partner, kids or a roomate. It’s not something you may need bestie to be in on…or maybe you do! Community is vital, but pick your dream tribe wisely. They can bring life or death of a dream with them.

It’s hard to remember in a social culture that interacts through technology…but we can ALWAYS make that technology work FOR us! Text, call, email…yes! Reach out to your people. I just know that they want to encourage you!

Loved the article! So important rather than self criticizing, opting for self evaluation in the days of medicinal quick fixes with a list of side effects you need a doctorate in pharm to understand fully …& emotional-mental health awareness should be focused more on. Kuddos to you for helping to shift. Stimulate the the thought practice and relax through the healing.

Thank you so much Julie! There is so much value in pausing, evaluating, reflecting and adjusting. It is a lost art in our culture and I’m so grateful you were inspired through this!
